This month the Christie’s hammer will come down for a noble cause: A Bid to Save the Earth, an auction co-chaired by Susan and David Rockefeller. The lots will aid four US-based environmental non-profits – the Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation International, Oceana and Central Park Conservancy.

As you’d expect, the art sourced for Christie’s first foray into eco-affairs delivers on talent and includes Turner Prize-winner Keith Tyson’s Cloud Choreography (pictured) and a Damien Hirst. The main auction, in New York on April 22, will be accessible through Christie’s Live, which facilitates real-time online bidding. Some of the lots will also be sold through a partner site, Charitybuzz.com, from April 8 to May 6. So the event could simultaneously reduce the carbon footprint of potential bidders. How apt.
