While there’s little that is quiet about the island of Capri, the recent, and welcome, regeneration of its hotel scene goes a long way towards mitigating the less savoury aspects of its endless popularity. Newest among these is the Tiberio Palace (www.capritiberiopalace.it; doubles from €405). Formerly a humdrum member of the JW Marriott family, it recently reopened after a refreshingly stylish makeover, courtesy of fashion designer turned architect Giampiero Panepinto.

The 60 rooms and suites are awash in calming sorbet hues and hand-carved white-oak furnishings; the new Blu Mediterraneo Acqua di Parma spa treatment centre features extensive hydrotherapy facilities with therapeutic showers, a hammam, sauna and Jacuzzi, while the terrace restaurant boasts the requisite sigh-provoking views without which no self-respecting Capri hotel would market itself.
